Is Nitin Gadkari BJP’s biggest problem?

GN Bureau | January 5, 2012

For a party whose senior most leader (LK Advani) just came back from an exhaustive 40-day rath yatra against corruption, induction of Mayawati’s tainted former minister Babu Singh Kushwaha is egg on the face. The BJP has let Kushwaha in at a time when Anna’s campaign against corruption is the real flavour of the season, a wave most parties plan to ride on in the upcoming elections in five states.

While party president Nitin Gadkari is known to be a political novice and has caused many embarrassments to the party in the past, this one is too serious to ignore. The induction of tainted politicians (also Badshah Singh) within the saffron fold in UP is seen as a contradiction of the party’s avowed objectives.

Do you believe Gadkari, rather than rival political parties, is the BJP’s biggest problem?
