Appointment of former cabinet secretary BK Chaturvedi and space commission member Roddam Narasimha, by the prime minister to probe into the Isro spectrum scam has raised a question of "conflict of interest". Chaturvedi was cabinet secretary in 2005 when the Isro's deal with Devas Multimedia was signed and hence, his role is in not above suspicion. Narasimha happens to be a member of the body whose role in the deal too is under a cloud.

Fairplay demands the prime minister to appoint a neutral person, like a retired judge of the supreme court, to unearth the muck. True, a retired judge may not be competent to deal with a highly technical matter like this but nothing prevents him or her from taking the help of experts and sitting judges are often called upon to decide such matters in the court.
