No love at first sight in Delhi University (DU) will be shown in Hindi movies from now on. The scene in which the boy meets the girl has to be reworked because DU will not be issuing pre-admission forms for undergraduate colleges from this year. So, now, scenes of the heroine perspiring under a blazing sun and is almost about to faint or is being eve-teased by a boy while standing in a long queue to purchase forms will have no place in the films.

With the new system coming in place the film director will not be able to show him and her missing out on the last date of submitting the admission form in their same dream college and then together fretting about it in the DU north campus, just by chance.

Now the love birds have to probably fall in love after they get the same percentage which fits into the same cut-off list brought out by the same college they wish to be in. They will have enough time to meet each other in the film because colleges will come out with five cut-off lists. And these cut-off lists will be decided after the 12th class board exam results are out and as per the past admission experience of respective colleges. The encounter for the duo can also take place in one of the ‘open days’ organised by the college to disseminate information on admission related queries.

Nowadays, one often meets the other virtually first and personally later, so that can be true for our hero-heroine students too who can find each other online at the ‘e-open days’ which will be 24x7 for students to log into the university website for details on admissions. Not only this, telephonic help-lines are going to be set up for students to help give them assistance in the new process.

Another unique way of bumping into each other can be having the same or similar question/s about the admissions and both reaching out to the special admissions assistance team that will visit colleges throughout the admission process for rendering assistance to students – as organised by DU.

In case the film director wishes to highlight details to the characters, they can both have sports background or belong to ‘extracurricular activities’ category and together wait to join the same college only after the second cut-off list is announced.

However, the college staff is welcoming this new change with open arms and is positive about the system being beneficial for the students and DU authorities.

All of this is added to subtract the time wasted in selling and processing admission forms. And the time saved is going to be utilised by the colleges for the semester system introduced this year.

Thus, as you can see, the new vice chancellor of the university has not only brought changes for the students and teachers but also for movie makers.
