State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) may be not be in overall good fiscal health but its Haryana circle is anticipating 85 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 100 crore in 2009-10 on the back of robust growth observed in number of GSM mobile connections.

There are only two circles of BSNL -- Haryana and Orissa -- that are showing profitability in their operations.

Recognising the remarkable performance, Haryana circle has been declared as best performer among all circles in terms of revenue growth by BSNL. It has also been awarded Rs one lakh cash for its stupendous performance, BSNL, Chief General Manager (Haryana circle) Arun Kumar Gupta told reporters here today.

"Our circle is expected to earn net profit of more than Rs 100 crore in 2009-10 compared to Rs 54 crore profit of 2008-09 primarily due to huge growth witnessed in GSM mobile connections last fiscal," he said.

BSNL Haryana posted 205 per cent growth in adding new mobile connections in 2009-10. "We have added 8.4 lakh mobile connections in last fiscal against 4 lakh connection added in corresponding year," he said.

Currently, Haryana circle, where tele-density is 57.55 per cent, has 25 lakh mobile connections and it is expecting its number to grow to 37 lakh connections by 2010-11 end.

Haryana circle holds first position in total number of telephone connections and second position in mobile connections.

Buoyed by considerable growth in mobile connections, Haryana circle is now eyeing total revenue of Rs 1,253 crore in 2010-11 against Rs 800 crore achieved in 2009-10.

To provide high-speed broadband access, BSNL Haryana circle would roll out Fibre to The Home (FTTH) services throughout the state by August this year. "With the introduction of FTTH, we will be able to provide broadband access of up to 1000 Mbps and IP TV, Video on Demand, interactive gaming etc and we plan to provide this service to 34,000 customers in 2010-11," he said.

BSNL Haryana has also tied up with the Haryana government for providing 10,000 connections including landline and mobile under Closed User Group Scheme whereby it would offer discounts and other benefits to subscribers.

On Number Portability, Gupta said that his office was technically ready to implement this facility, which would see adding more customers under BSNL's fold.

BSNL Haryana provides its services through the state except Panchkula, Gurgaon and Faridabad.
