PPP model for development of industrial estates in Delhi

GN Bureau | March 3, 2010

The Delhi cabinet has approved the development and management of industrial estates under the PPP model.

The Department of Industries has been keen to upgrade infrastructure in the existing industrial estates and develop a sustainable framework for industrial estate management, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Tuesday.

There are 29 industrial estates and four flatted factory complexes in Delhi. Of these, 23 have been developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and are maintained by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) from its own budget, while eight are with the Department of Industries or Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC). These are maintained by DSIIDC or the PWD from the budget provided by the Department of Industries. For the remaining two estates -- at Okhla and Badli – it was stated that they have been developed by the Department of Industries and are being maintained by the MCD.

Various industries’ associations have been demanding for a single agency to hold responsibility for lease administration, civic maintenance and improvement of infrastructure.
