After being skewered by the union HRD minister and others alike for posting a 100 percent cut off for non-commerce students, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) found some succour on Thursday as applications poured in from students who meet the threshold criterion of the first list.

In fact, the number of applicants has been so high that the college may not even need to bring out a second list. The college authorities believe that the 252 general category seats and the 135 seats for OBC category for BCom (H) will be occupied even before the deadline on first-list applications is up. Even the 95 BA Eco (H) seats could get filled without a second list being brought out.

However, the college did not reveal if it had received any application from non-commerce students meeting the 100 percent cut-off.

Chopeni from Nagaland scored 99.25 percent in the commerce stream and sounded confident of getting in. She said, “I applied in the SC quota but my marks have got me an easy entry through the open category as well.”

Shonali has scored a 98.75 and is from Rajasthan, said, “It was my dream to get it in SRCC. And I see that dream coming true.”

Ramesh, at the counter of selling the under graduate forms said, “People have been queuing since 8 am. We opened the counter at 9 am as instructed and within three hours, we had sold more than 550 forms.”

Around 80 forms hostel accomodation for boys had also been sold.

The selling and purchasing of the admission forms was scehduled from 9 am to 1pm.

However, at 11.30 am, a college official said, “We are contemplating stopping the sale of the forms for today. Since we need to spread the supply of forms for four days, we need to take it easy.”

On being asked if the college will need a second list, principal P C Jain said, “The response of the students has been very positive. However, we need to take it easy, because we are expected to come out with five cut off lists, and today is just the first day of registration. It is not going to be easy for us.”
