Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been summoned by the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team(SIT) to appear before it on March 21 for questioning in post-Godhra riots in the state in 2002.

The summon follows a petition by Zakia Jaffrey, widow of the late Congress MP Ehsan Jaffrey who was burnt alive in the Gulbarg Society massacre in Ahmedabad during the riots.

"We have summoned the Chief Minister (Modi) and we will be asking few questions based on the evidence collected till now. Nothing more than this," SIT Chief Raghavan said.

Summons have been delivered to Modi to appear on March 21, he said.

Raghavan said the summon has been issued only in connection with Jaffrey's murder.
