Maha govt may increase folk artists' pensions

Issue to be presented before cabinet for approval, says state cultureminister

Maharashtra government is cosidering the demand of increasing pension of folk artists in the backdrop of Golden Jubilee year of the state, a state minister said.

"We would consider increasing pension of folk artists and I would convey the feeling of the legislature members to the chief minister," te state's minister of state for cultural affairs, Fauzia Khan informed the legislative council on Thursday.

The issue would be presented before the cabinet meeting for approval, she said. The Government doubled their pension last year, she added.

Congress MLC Sanjay Dutt raised the issue and asked if the government would also give them facility of medical insurance.

The issue would be discussed with the Medical department to start the facility, the minister said.

Unsatisfied with the answer, opposition leaders walked out of the House.
