Legal compliance must for institutes offering admissions: SHRC

Rajasthan human rights body ask state to ensure all institutions offering admission meet mandatory legal standards

PTI | May 11, 2010

The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has asked state government and All India Council for Technology to ensure that no educational institute invited applications for admission without completing mandatory legal procedure for functioning.

The Commission issued the directive on May 6 following complaints lodged before it by students against ICFAI, Institute of Science & Technology, Jaipur that they were admitted in B Tech programme and conferred degree from its Dehradun branch, which was not recognised in the state.

The students alleged that on the basis of certificates issued by the ICFAI (Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India), they had availed education loans from different financial institutions but as the degree was not valid they were in a fix.

The Commission said the explanation submitted by the ICFAI was not convincing as it had committed to give degree certificates to the students.

In its directive, the commission said since the Dean of ICFAI failed to give satisfactory explanation on the mater, the education department and AICT must ensure that no educational institute which has been not recognised or has not fulfilled mandatory legal requirements, should not be allowed to operate in the state.
