Against the backdrop of outsourcing debate in the United States, one of its states Kentucky has welcomed outsourcing business with India.

“We would be dealing with our business in India and hoping that India will bring business to the United States and to Kentucky. So, I don’t think that any of those kinds of issues (outsourcing) interfere with the relationship that we will deal with India,” Steve L. Beshear, governor of Kentucky told Governance Now in an interview.

“We do a lot of business with Japan. We are looking for the same relationship with India. Certain tax incentives or tax breaks that will be spread out for over several years will be advantages to the Indian companies,” Beshear added.

The outsourcing debate heated up after Ohio banned the outsourcing of government information technology projects in August to overseas locations.

The Indian IT industries are expected to raise the issue with the US president Barack Obama on his visit to India from November 6-9. The industry association Nasscom is also likely to raise the US visa fee hike for software professionals issue.

About Obama’s upcoming visit to India, Beshear told, “I am sure he will be here to strengthen that relationship and build on that relationship and I think what ever differences we have are small compared to the benefits that would be more when we cooperate with each other.”

“I know the president values a very strong relationship between India and the United States. We have much more in common than our differences,” he said.

The governor was on a week-long trip to India to explore more cooperation in the area of agriculture, agro-business, automobiles and manufacturing sector.

“We are a large producer of cars and light trucks that is third largest in the United States. Obviously you have some great automobiles companies here and we are looking for partner or some kind of venture both here in India and Kentucky,” he noted.

Beshear trip to India was the first time a governor of Kentucky officially visited India.

Just before the presidential visit, a number of delegations from both countries explored to avenues to minimise differences and set the agenda for the talks in the early week of November. President Obama will arrive in Mumbai on November 6 and will be in New Delhi on the next day where he will meet prime minister Manmohan Singh and address the joint session of  Parliament.
