Karunanidhi to visit Delhi

Karuna coming after a year almost; will meet Sonia, PM

GN Bureau | April 15, 2010

Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi will arrive in Delhi on May 5 for a three-days stay. He is scheduled to meet the president, the prime minister and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to invite them for the World Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore in June.

He will also have the annual plan discussion with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia on May 8.

His Delhi visit comes after a year. He did not participate in the swearing-in ceremony of his son MK Alagiri when UPA2 assumed office. As Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi visited Chennai for the inauguration of a new assembly building, the warmth has returned between DMK and the Congress.

An advance team of doctors from Chennai will be in Delhi soon and they will be positioned in the Tamil Nadu House. All arrangements for Karunanidhi's Delhi stay are being overseen by Dayanidhi Maran.
