Gujarat riot case: public prosecutors resign

In Gulburg society, 69 people including former MP Eshan Jaffery were killed

Special public prosecutor R K Shah and Assistant Public Prosecutor Naina Bhatt, appearing in the Gulburg society case of the Gujarat 2002 riots, have resigned from their posts without giving any reasons.

"Yes, I have resigned from the case," Shah told PTI. However, he refused to divulge reasons for his actions.

Bhatt, when contacted, also said that she has resigned but did not give any reasons.

The Supreme Court had ordered to form special courts to run 2002 riot case of Gulburg.

On the recommendation of the Special Investigating Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court to monitor the cases, Shah and Bhatt were appointed as prosecutors in the case by the state government.

The case is going on at present in the special court and examination of many witnesses has been conducted by the court.

In the Gulburg society riot case of 2002, 69 people were killed including former MP Eshan Jaffery.
