Gadkari goes for 234-strong jumbo national executive

Body has only 12 members but also count 77 permanent invitees and 36 special invitees

The new national executive of the Bhartiya Janata Party announced here on Tuesday by its president Nitin Gadkari has only 121 members, including 40 office-bearers, but for all practical purposes it has the jumbo strength of 234 because of the list of another 77 permanent invitees and 36 special invitees.

The national executive includes RSS ideologue and former Organiser editor Sheshadri Chari, expelled union minister Jaswant Singh's journalist-turned-politician son Manvendra Singh, Arun Shourie, Mahesh Jethmalani of Mumbai, LK Advani's favourite journalists Balbir Punj and Chandan Mitra and Maneka Gandhi.

Besides the office-bearers, other members on the executive are:

The permanent invitees' list includes six chief ministers, two deputy chief ministers, eight former chief ministers, three former governors, 14 legislature leaders, two chief whips in parliament, parliamentary party secretary and joint secretary and 40 others who include Ramdas Agarwal (outgoing treasurer), O Rajgopal, former union minister Satyanarayan Jatiya (Madhya Pradesh), Devdeas Apte (Bapu Apte), Vidyasagar Rao (Andhra), Bandaru Dattatreya, Satyapal Jain, former union minister Shripad Naik (Goa), Vinod Tawde, Om Prakash Kohli and Jagdish Mukhi.

The special invitees include former Delhi Lt governor Vijay Kapoor, Jagdish Shettigar, Arun Sathe, Anandiben Patel (Gujarat minister), Amit Shah (Mumbai spokesman), Banwarilal Purohit (Nagpur), Col Bainsala (Rajasthan), Suvarn Saleriya, Siddharthanath Singh, Rajesh Shah and Amitabh Sinha.
