Net revenue is expected to be Rs 80 crore

GN Bureau | February 24, 2010

The government says the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Delhi in October, is likely to generate a net revenue of about Rs.80 crore.

The quantum of revenue likely to be generated during the Commonwealth Games till December 2010 is expected to be of Rs.1,708 crore from (i) international / domestic broadcasting (Rs.298.70 crore), (ii) sponsorship (Rs.960 crore), (iii) ticketing (Rs.100 crore), (iv) licensed merchandise (Rs.50 crore), and (v) donations (Rs.300 crore). The CG Organising Committee is likely to offset the entire projected expenditure of Rs.1,620 crore on the conduct of Games through the collection of this revenue.

The government has guaranteed to meet the shortfall between revenue generation and expenditure, if any, of the CG Organizing Committee.
