Home minister to brief meeting, mandate on air strikes to be discussed

The Union cabinet will meet on Thursday to discuss a strategy to take on the Maoist rebels in the country. The meeting comes in the backdrop of Tuesday's massacre of 76 CRPF personnel in Chattishgarh's Dantewada district.

Home minister P chidambaram will brief the meeting and seek a consensus on a cohesive strategy to deal with Maoist challenge.

The Prime Minister is also likely consult the cabinet on the mandate to engage the Air Force in combatting the Maoists.

Congress is seeking to involve its UPA allies on decisive action against the Maoists in the informal meeting which will be held without the cabunet officials being present, sources said.

The cabinet will also discuss SAIL divestment and the ban on FDI in tobacco.
