Students demand appointment of teachers in Sundargarh government college

A 12-hour bandh is being observed today at Sundargarh town in support of a student union's demand to fill up the vacant post of lecturers in Sundargarh Government College.

The student union has been demanding appointment of teachers in the college and finally resorted to agitation starting indefinite hunger strike before the college and locking the college gate since yesterday.

Shops, business houses closing shutters and public transport in the town remained off the road. Normal life in the town was affected and students in school and college boycotted classes.

The bandh remains peaceful with no untoward incidents reported till noon, police sources said adding that no arrest made in connection with today's bandh call.

The college offers Plus-II courses to PG courses in science, arts and commerce and has 1633 students with required infrastructures. But the staff shortage has crippled the growth of the college since last few years.

The students have been facing problem in absence of lecturers in the all most all departments and even some departments including English, Botany and PG departments are managed by one temporary lecturers, the student union sources said.
