Work was affected in various courts in the district following a five-day strike by lawyers to protest the Allahabad High Court's order reducing the summer vacation of civil advocates by 15 days.

Ghaziabad District Judge Vishnu Chand Gupta met with the representatives of the Bar Association and conveyed to them a "direction" of the Supreme Court not to strike work over "petty issues" as as it hampers court work and causes inconvenience to undertrials.

But the Bar Association maintained that the issue of reducing summer vacation of the advocates to 15 days from one month was a "serious" matter and went on a strike since yesterday.

Court proceeding in over 1.87 lakh cases have been affected due to the strike.

Jail Superintendent V K Singh said the strikes cause problems to the prison administration too as hearings get delayed.
