Govt hospital doctors threaten strike

Protest the appointment of an IAS officer in the health directorate

PTI | August 5, 2010

Doctors of government hospitals in Uttarakhand today threatened to go on an indefinite strike from tomorrow protesting against the appointment of an IAS officer in the Health Directorate.

"The government should not interfere in functioning of doctors by appointing an IAS officer in the directorate. It should instead appoint some doctor in his place," said Dr D P Joshi, general secretary, Prantiya Chikitsa Evam Swasthaya Seva Sangh.

The doctors have been protesting against appointment of Piyush Singh, an IAS officer, as the Director (administration) in the Directorate of Health Services. As a mark of protest, they have been attending patients wearing black badges for the past one week.

Joshi said if the government does not withdraw its order, the doctors would be forced to take the path of strike from tomorrow.
