The retirement age row between the union government and the employees of central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) will soon end. Source in the public sector undertakings (PSU) said the department of public enterprises under the ministry of heavy industries is reviewing its previous order. The department of public enterprises is planning to extend the retirement age of all CPSE employees from 58 to 60 years. There will not be any discripancy in the retirement age of a sick PSU and a normal one. The government order is likely to be implemented in PSUs very soon, sources said.

There are more than 70 sick CPSEs in India for which the department of public enterprises issued guidelines in 1998, enhancing the age of retirement for the employees of sick CPSEs from 58-60 years. But soon after this order, instructions were issued for rollback of the age of superannuation from 60 to 58 years for all PSEs and all categories of employees. This was approved by the board of directors. According to sources, the union government is finally willing to enhance the retirement age from 58 to 60 years for all the CPSEs and all categories of employees.
