The CPCB should also begin an SMS complaint service, the environment minister Jairam Ramesh said at a recent conference in New Delhi. Inspired by the SMS complaint service that the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KPSCB) started a week back, Ramesh said that CPCB should also follow suit.

M D N Simha, the chief environmental officer at KPSCB said that they had received around 12 complaints through SMS till now. “People have been sending an SMS to complain about things like garbage disposal, waste water discharge, vehicular smoke etc.,” he said.

The complaints received will be forwarded to the concerned departments, said Simha. He also said that since they were doing it for the first time so there will be some hurdles but they were open to suggestions.
