Associated Content has more than 3,80,000 contributors

Internet major Yahoo has said that it will buy user-generated site Associated Content for an undisclosed amount in an effort to strengthen content creation.

However, the company did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, which is expected to boost Yahoo's traditional news content with independently-produced articles.

"Together, we'll create more content around what we know our users care about, and open up new creative avenues for advertisers to engage with consumers across our network," Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz said in a statement.

"These are important aspects of building engaging consumer experiences on Yahoo, and one of the reasons why we are one of the most visited destinations online," he added.

Yahoo, which expects to complete the acquisition in the third quarter, said that the deal would expand its content offerings and help attract more advertisers.

Six-year-old Associated Content has more than 3,80,000 contributors, who receive fees for their stories on a wide range of topics including technology, travel and health.

Associated Content receives more than 16 million users per month, according to Internet marketing research company comScore. The editorial staff reviews more than 50,000 pieces of content per month, including articles, images, audio and video clips.
