WiMax service launched in Kozhikode SSA

To help customers avail broadband without landline

Kozhikode Secondary Switching Area (SSA), covering the districts of Kozhikode and Wayanad, today launched a new service-WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) in 35 sites in Kozhikode city.

WiMax would enable the customers to avail Broadband Internet Service, even if they do not own a landline telephone, C Sunitha, General Manager, BSNL Kozhikode, told mediapersons here today.

The WiMax has a speed of 2 Mbps.

WiMax will be of great help for the rural people, where landline telephones connections are not available, she said.

The service will be available in 35 exchanges under the Kozhikode SSA including Ashokapuram, Mananchira, playam, West Hill and south Beach, she said.

The mobilephone connections in Kozhikode has been increasing by 5 to 7 percent per month, she said.
