Tripura to create criminals database

To launch automated finger print

PTI | July 1, 2010

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Tripura police would launch an Automated Finger Print Identification System (AFPIS) for storing the data base of the criminals, official sources said today.

"This unique system (AFPIS) can store, detect and analyse the detailed database of miscreants, convicts and undertrial prisoners automatically in a computerised device," DIG (Police Control), Nepal Das told PTI.

It can supply information on suspects by tallying the finger-marks in the stored database along with other behavioral attributes within a short time, he said.

AFPIS, if interconnected with online system it would be able to provide information about any person subjected to the process of identification from any part of the state.

If a case is filed against anyone the system would be able to provide information if the person was arrested earlier.

The system is operated by comparing the finger print of any unidentified person which is termed as 'chance finger print' with stored finger-marks of suspected criminals or formerly arrested persons and the system could even take suspected finger prints automatically, which makes the ongoing investigation easier, Das added.
