Tribal farmers adopt internet based solutions to boost yield

Farmer interacts with Anand University through windows enabled mobile

Tribal farmers of Motitokri village of Vadodara district are adopting internet based field solutions to boost tomato yield, a Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation (GAIC) official said here today.

"Tribals of Motitokri in Kawath taluka engaged in tomato farming have begun getting online field solutions to their problems from the scientists of Anand Agriculture University (AAU)," said Dr J M Tuwar of GAIC.

State-run GAIC has proposed to develop the village as the one adopting a unique model of farming in the state.

"It's an unique initiative taken to boost crop yield in this tomato growing region of the state," he said adding corporation has proposed to develop the village as a unique model of farming in the state.

"A farmer of the village has been provided with windows enabled mobile through which he interacts with AAU scientist and seeks solutions to field related problems," Tuwar said.

"As part of this initiative, 26 farmers have switched over to drip irrigation facility in the village, which is expected to increase crop duration and enhance tomato yield by 25-30 per cent from this year," Tuwar said.
