Thiruvananthapuram Technopark turns 20

IT park has 185 companies and employ over 28000 professionals

Technopark, one of India's first and largest IT parks, today celebrated its 20th anniversary, unveiling the future plans of development.

Situated on the outskirts of Kerala capital, Technopark now has 185 companies employing 28000 IT/ITES professionals and plans to raise the number of jobs manifold in the coming years

A CEOs' meet was organised on the occasion where heads of companies discussed the future potential of the facility by making it a worldclass destination of IT enterprises.

"In the past two decades, Technopark has played a major role in shaping Kerala IT by providing infrasturcture and connectivity", Kerala's IT secretary Ajay Kumar said.

It was estimated that by 2015, Kerla will have 200,000 direct jobs in IT/ITES industry and technoark will be one of the top five investment diestinations in India, he said.

The foundation-stone for Technopark was laid in March, 1991 by then Chief Minister E K Nayanar and dedicated to the nation by then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao in November 1995.

Global companies having units in Technopark include Allianz Cornhill, Ernst&Young and animation major Toonz.It also houses technology and buisiness schools like Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kerala, The Asian chool oBusiness Communications and Faith Infotech.

Technopark has plans to exand to another 92 acres in its thrid phase of development and an intergrated township called Technocity in the fourth phase, Technoprk CEO Mervin Alxnder said during an interaction with the media.

A revamped technopark website www.technoprk.org was launched by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to mark the occasion.
