Telecom Users Group objects to non transparent method on fixing tariff

PTI | July 15, 2010

Telecom tribunal TDSAT today sought responses from operators to a petition seeking uniformity in their prepaid tariff plans.

A bench headed by Justice S B Sinha asked the service providers and regulator TRAI to file their responses within a month on a plea of Telecom Users Group of India, which has alleged lack of transparency and uniformity in prepaid mobile tariff plans of different companies.

The tribunal passed the order after converting a letter written by Telecom Users Group to it in a petition.

Telecom Users Group in a letter addressed to chairman of the tribunal had alleged that prepaid mobile tariff plans are bewildering and has become tools of exploitation for consumers by telecom operators.

The group has sought directions to TRAI to bring transparency in prepaid mobile tariff by introducing "One Plan for All" which would remove tariff anomaly and help customer save their money.

"Even though most of the telecom operator have switched to per second per paisa call which has resulted to a competitive tariff, but still due to tariff anomaly and top up charge coupon, they create confusion" the Telecom users Group said.
