SMS comes in handy to make peace appeal

Desist from clashing with each other in the name of Ram or Allah : SMS

PTI | September 22, 2010

With just two days to go for the Ayodhya title suits verdict, social organisations and individuals are making peace appeals through SMS.

The votaries of temple and mosque are also using technology for asking their supporters to pray for a verdict in their favour.

Among those who have reached out to their supporters is the VHP leader Pravin Togadia, who has sent messages asking the people to pray for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya after 450 years of struggle and sacrifice of Hindus.

Mahant Jugal Kishore Sharan Shastri of Ram Janki mandir in Ayodhya, who also runs a weekly and a social welfare organisation by the name of "Ayodhya ki Awaz" has been sending SMS to people for peace and communal harmony.

"Desist from clashing with each other in the name of Ram or Allah", is the refrain of the SMS sent by Shastri who had earlier organised a "shanti sadbhav yatra" (peace march) in Ayodhya.

A group had also been sending messages to Muslim brothers for offering special prayers for a judgement in their favour which could pave the way for restoration of Babri mosque.

"People have been advised to desist from any tactics which could lead to any kind of reaction from the other community and asked to accept the verdict in the right spirit and not express either happiness or sorrow in public," Niab Imam of Idgah and member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahli, said.
