Samsung India Electronics today said it has launched e-waste recycling programme for all the consumer durable products that it produces.

Launching the Samsung Takeback And Recycle (STAR) Programme, the company said that under the project it would encourage consumers to recycle products like TVs, DVD and VHS players, Home Theatre Systems, Mobile Phones, Cameras and Computer Monitors free of cost.

"We are aiming to address the important issue of e-waste management with the roll out of STAR programme. Our ability to cover our entire product portfolio makes this more convenient and easier for our consumers," Samsung South West Asia HQ President & CEO J S Shin said.

Through this program, Samsung is leading the efforts to create a recycling based society and contribute to preserving the environment, Shin added.

Consumers will be able to dispose portable products at 235 locations in 20 cities across the Samsung service centre network.

For bigger products, they can avail of the collection facility on nominal payment or drop them at any of the Company's 291 collection centres in 21 cities. This initiative will gradually be extended nationally.

The company has entered into contracts directly with Central Pollution Control Board authorised e-waste recyclers for product take back and recycling.
