Rajya Sabha MP in disfigurement of map on website row

Court records statement against Bajaj in India map row

A Delhi court today recorded the statement of a complainant, who is seeking prosecution of industrialist and Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Bajaj for the alleged disfigurement of the India map on a website hosted by his group's German insurance partner, Allianz.

"The portrayal of Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh as parts of Pakistan and China respectively on the website of the company shows the disloyalty towards the nation," complainant Sanjay Sachdeva testified before Metropolitan Magistrate Geetanjali Goel.

The act was violative of constitutional provisions dealing with the territorial integrity of the nation, he said.

The police, in their report, said that the website belonged to the German company, and the error had already been rectified.

The court, which may summon Bajaj if convinced about his alleged role in the offence, has fixed the date for recording the statements of other complainants on July 1, when the next hearing happens.

Sachdeva, a member of the Delhi Pradesh National Panthers Party, had sought the prosecution of Bajaj under Section 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code on the grounds that disfigurement of the India map was an "anti-national" act.

Responding to the allegations, Bajaj had earlier told PTI that it was the portal of his company's insurance venture partner, Allianz, that had carried the map with the reported discrepancy.

It was alleged in the complaint that "in the website (allianz.com)... he intentionally... depicted the state of Jammu and Kashmir as a part of Pakistan and Arunachal Pradesh as a part of China.
