PTI | June 23, 2010

US-based mail and document management company Pitney Bowes today launched a new product in the Indian market which will help companies destroy data stored on their computers before disposing of them.

"Before a PC is disposed of, people run data removal software and format the drive to erase the data stored on the computer. However, the data can be retrieved," Pitney Bowes India Managing Director KM Nanaiah said.

The product, 'Degaussers', ensures that the data is removed completely and the hard drive is not re-usable, he added.

The company is targeting the banking, financial and insurance services and telecom sectors and the government for orders.

"These sectors have a lot of confidential data, which also needs to be destructed at various points in time. We will start discussions with various companies and ministries (like Defence) for procuring orders," Nanaiah said.

The product, which was developed by Martin Yale, will be priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.
