Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot today said that nearly 10,000 mobile towers would be erected across the country, with special focus on its backward areas.

"Nearly 10,000 mobile towers will be erected in the country during the current financial year to provide mobile connectivity to left-out areas, with special focus on border and backward areas of India," Pilot said at a function here, on the occasion of the 19th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi today.

While paying rich tributes to the late Prime Minister, Pilot said that Gandhi's dream would be accomplished only when all the 6.40 lakh villages in the country are connected through the Internet and other communication facilities.

"We are working in this direction to fulfill his (Rajiv Gandhi's) dreams of providing all types of connectivity to villages across the country," he said.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Saif-uddin-Soz, Minister for Sports R S Chib, Member of Parliament Madan Lal Sharma and Vice-Chancellor (Jammu University) Prof Varun Sahani visited the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust with Pilot.

Speaking on the late Prime Minister during a function at the PCC headquarters in Shaheedi Chowk, Prof Soz said that Gandhi was a dynamic leader who served the nation with complete devotion and dedication.

The PCC chief said that Gandhi was so deeply involved in the service of the less-fortunate that he would, at times, forget about his own security.

He said that with Gandhi's death, India lost a dynamic leader who had dreams of making it a great country.
