Japan-based IT major NEC Corp will consider setting production facilities in India in the future if the opportunity arises, its president Nobuhiro Endo said today.

"India is one of the most important markets for NEC in this region," Endo said, pointing out that his group had established a strong marketing base in the Indian market.

Beyond India, NEC has expanded into other South Asian markets including Nepal and Sri Lanka where it supplies IT solutions and network solutions, respectively.

Elaborating on the company's prospects in the Indian and South Asian market, Endo said India along with China would lead NEC's Asian marketing strategy of increasing businesses, accounting for 50 per cent growth in earnings by 2012.

He pointed out that India's enterprise IT spending would grow at 12 per cent a year from 2008 to 2012, the highest when compared with an 8 per cent average for the rest of Asia Pacific, excluding China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan.

NEC has already put India ahead of other Asian markets, having established a Biometrics Excellence Centre in Bangalore in May (2010).

"Moving on, NEC plans to expand its business for its biometrics solutions," said Endo.

The Bangalore centre would support NEC?s engineering operations worldwide and enable the company to quickly respond to wide variety of customer requirements - from proposal drafts and specifications to product development, customization, deployment, and support engineering.

It would also develop and deploy solutions for India market and play a leading role in expanding NEC public safety market in India.

Endo recently presented NEC?s mid-term plan in Singapore, setting targets to raise revenue to Yen 4 trillion by financial year 2012 from Y3.58 trillion in FY 2009.

He has set FY2012 net income target of Y100 billion, up from Y 11.5 billion in FY2009.

Likewise, Endo has set an overseas sales target of Y1 trillion by FY2012, up from Y713 billion in FY2009. He said 50 per cent of the overseas sales would come from Asia, taking NEC?s overseas sales ratio to 25 per cent in FY2012 from the FY2009?s 20 per cent.
