Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today said there was need to upgrade technology to cope with developments in the cyber world even as top police officers spoke of vulnerability of Mumbai to cyber terrorism.

Mumbai Police Commissioner D Sivanandhan said Mumbai was vulnerable to cyber terrorism.

"With development in technology in the cyber world, Mumbai has become vulnerable to cyber terrorism," he said on the sidelines of an event here.

He said terrorists were using technology tactically for launching attacks. "The next world war could probably be a cyber war," he said.

State DGP, A N Roy, said that Government agencies too were most vulnerable to hacking.

Meanwhile, Patil said developments in the cyber world could be used as a tool to attack by outsiders and hence there was a need to upgrade technology.

"The nature of crime has changed drastically. Today, the internet sector is being used as a tool for committing serious crimes. There is a need to upgrade our technologies to combat with the possible cyber threats," Patil said.
