MMP on Immigration services to be implemented from April, 2010

Project implemented as part of national e-governance plan

The mission mode project on immigration services will be implemented from April 2010. This was stated by the minister of state for Home Affairs, Mullappally Ramachandran, in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.

The Rs. 1011 crore project is to be implemented in a planned and phased manner over a period of four and half years from  April, 2010 to September, 2014.
The modernisation and upgradation of immigration services is getting implemented as a mission mode project (MMP) under the national e-governance plan (NeGP) by the foreigners division of ministry of Home Affairs. Ministry is taking help of Hyderabad based national institute for smart government (NISG) for the project.

The MMP is titled “Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT)” and aims to develop a secure and integrated service delivery framework to enhance security and facilitation in the visa issuance process, strengthen the immigration function besides fortifying the foreigners registration processes for effective tracking of foreigners.

With the implementation of this project, all the 169 Indian missions across the globe, 77 immigration check posts (ICPs) and the foreigners regional registration offices(FRROs)/foreigners registration offices (FROs) in the country would be linked with the centralized system at the central foreigners bureau (CFB) in Delhi.
