Maha to start UID process from November 1

Government to give Rs 100 to member of BPL families for registering with UID

The Maharashtra Government today said it would start collecting data for the Centre's ambitious Unique Identification Cards (UID) system from November 1.

"We have decided to start registering people for UID system from November 1," Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told reporters here.

The process would go on till February under which 13 different identities of the person like finger prints and information of the family would be collected, he said.

"The Revenue Department has been appointed as a nodal agency for the entire process and Principal Secretary of Information Technology A B Pandey would be the main officer for the project," Chavan said.

In order to encourage people for registering for the UID, Pandey said the government would give Rs 100 to each member from BPL families.

The UID project aims at providing a unique 10-digit identification number to all Indians.
