In an effort to become more public friendly, Maharashtra Government plans to provide various services online by making it mandatory for all the departments.

The Information Technology Department of the Government has proposed a Maharashtra Mandatory Electronic Delivery of Public Service Act 2010 to promote e-services to the citizens.

"This will be the first such Act being formulated in the country and would provide Government services online to the public," Principal Secretary of Information Technology Department, Ajay Bhushan Pandey told PTI.

Services like birth certificates, land documents and property papers would be available online for public, doing away with long queues and waiting periods at the Government offices. Citizens would also have the choices to opt for the earlier manual system, Pandey said.

"We are asking all the departments to set up time frame in which they can make the service available for the people online. They are also expected to come up with suggestions and objections," he said.

The Act would come up before the state cabinet for approval and would be tabled in the winter session of state Legislature.
