PTI | July 26, 2010

Maharashtra Government is mulling over making salary payments of school teachers online to bring transparency in the system.

School Education Minister Balasaheb Thorat informed the Legislative Council here today to start the online system for the payment in the backdrop of demand from Opposition for direct payment to the teachers from the Government.

"We are considering to start online payment for school teachers of aided schools across the state to bring transparency in the system," Thorat said.

Shiv Sena MLC Diwakar Raote raised the issue that the Government should ensure payment to the teachers since many educational institutes do not give full payment to teachers.

He said that all the teaching staff should be brought on the roll call of the Government.

Another Sena MLC Kiran Pavaskar asked if the Government would bring an Act to control exorbitant fee hike in the schools.

The Government has recently permitted schools to hike fee upto 50 per cent, he said.

Thorat said the Government has issued a resolution based on the guidelines laid by the Bombay High Court from July 15 permitting the private schools to hike the fee upto 50 per cent.

The decision is retrospective and the schools' authorities would have to implement it from 2009.
