Maha Govt mulling use of MIS in schools

Maharashtra Government is considering introduction of Information Management System (MIS) in all schools to ensure streamlining of processes like online submission of forms and approvals by schools and students.

The MIS would include all teachers using biometric system that will also analyse new requirements for teachers including training, periodical performance assessment, a senior Mantralaya official said.

For students, the biometric system will analyse new budgetary requirements, including mid-day meal, uniform, stationary, learning material, special training and pupil performance.

The process, initiated by minister of state for school education Fauzia Khan, makes online assessment and gradation of all schools and an online fee approval system mandatory.

The MIS would include an online grants and salary disbursement system and an online Centralised admission system for 11th class in all municipal corporation areas. For B Ed and D Ed examinations, the admissions would be online.

The government is also considering mapping (GIS) and Integrated Perspective plan of schools. This includes defining the concept of neighbourhood schools, geographical remoteness and distance norms and population norms like linguistic and ward/circle wise details.

A survey of the out of school children would be carried out and records of children up to 14 years within the school jurisdiction would be maintained using UID, the official said.

A training framework for teachers is also being planned. It includes special training, psychological counselling and certification course, the official said.

There will also be a foundation and in-service continuous periodical training including certification and the same would be considered for promotion and increments.

Considering the administrative responsibilities that come along with the job, it will be necessary to impart administrative training for head masters, the official said.

There is also a proposal to set up a State Advisory Council for conceiving, developing, deploying, implementing and monitoring different schemes and policies in an integrated and wholesome manner.
