Alert after mobile SIM cards were found from the city in connection with Jama masjid firing, Maharashtra Government asked the mobile companies to carry an authentication campaign of the cards purchased so far.

"The mobile companies should carry out a verification campaign of SIM cards with the help of the Home Department as a precautionary measures," Home Minister R R Patil told reporters today.

An e-mail was purportedly sent by terror outfit Indian Mujahideen, owning up the attack outside Jama masjid in Delhi.

The e-mail was sent using a mobile phone. The mobile and the SIM card were purchased using a fake address and name, from Mumbai.

"We have already spoken with the mobile companies and some of them have started the verification process. The police would seize the bogus SIM cards found during the drive," Patil said.

Admitting that the SIM cards can be purchased from other states with fake identification, Patil said the Government would at least restrict the practise in the state.

Two persons have been detained so far for questioning in connection with the incident.
