Papers to suit the growing digital printing in India

In tune with its Rs 1500-crore expansion plan, JK Paper today announced its technological tie up with IT product maker Hewlett Packard to introduce a new range of high-end digital printing papers in India.

"Our tie up with Hewlett Packard is a major step in our journey towards quality improvement. With HP's ColorLok technology, we are introducing papers, which are superior and suits the growing digital printing segment in India," JK Paper Managing Director Harsh Pati Singhania told reporters.

He said the launch of ColorLok Paper is in line with its Rs 1500 crore capacity expansion plan that the company announced earlier this year.

"The capacity expansion is aimed at continuing the company leadership in the branded copier paper market. The entire copier output will be based on the upgraded technology platform," he said.

As part of its expansion plan, JK Paper is looking at increasing its annual production from 2.5 lakh tonnes to 4 lakh tonnes in the next two years. At present, the company has two plants in Orissa and Gujarat.

The company, which currently sells paper brands like JK Copier, JK Easy Copier and JK Copier Plus, will now sport Colorlok logo, he said.

"This will enhance our positioning in the market. The papers that we introduce with the technology will be more eco-friendly, reduces paper jamming and will suit high speed machines," Singhania said.

The company said it will sell its new range of papers at the same price points of its existing brands. However, it may look at increasing it later on. At present, the firm sells its papers within the range of Rs 120 and Rs 125 per ream.

"No major and significant cost is incurred due the new technology. We are right now absorbing the cost. However, we might later on increase the price," he said.
