Jet Airways inks USD 62 mn IT deal with IBM

10-year deal to align company's IT needs with business strategy

Technology giant IBM today said it has entered into a 10-year business transformation and information technology (IT) services deal worth USD 62 million with Jet Airways.

The ten-year deal, valued at USD 62 million, will help Jet Airways achieve significant growth by aligning the company's IT needs with the business strategy, IBM said in a statement.

As part of the deal, IBM will provide technology solutions to transform the airline's business areas such as airport operations, direct distribution and frequent flier programs, it added.

IBM will support Jet Airways with IT infrastructure and application support services, including employee transition, data centre operations, central help desk support, server and storage operations, internet security services, network management, SAP and other operating system.

This will help Jet Airways improve and integrate its IT systems improve its operational efficiency.

"This association will enable us to focus on our core business and improve our operational efficiencies, besides delivering a seamless customer experience," Jet Airways (India) Chief Executive Officer Nikos Kardassis said.

Jet Airways currently operates a fleet of 90 aircraft and flights to 65 destinations across the globe.

"The agreement with Jet Airways is a significant milestone for IBM in the aviation industry. Jet Airways will have access to industry expertise and knowledge, which are essential for sustaining growth and leadership in the competitive global market," IBM India/South Asia Distribution Sector Vice President Sameer Batra said.

"We see this (agreement) as an exciting opportunity to use IBM?s technology to lead business transformation in the Indian aviation sector and augment growth," Jet Airways' Chief Executive Officer, Nikos Kardassis, said.

The association will enable Jet Airways to focus on its core business and improve operational efficiencies, besides delivering a seamless customer experience, Kardassis said.

IBM will support Jet Airways with IT Infrastructure and application support services including employee transition, data center operations, central helpdesk support, server and storage operations, Internet security services through the use of Tivoli suite, network management, SAP and other operating systems.

"With this tie-up, Jet Airways will have access to industry expertise and knowledge, which are essential for sustaining growth and leadership in the competitive global market," IBM India-South Asia's Vice-President (Distribution Sector), Sameer Batra, said.
