The International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-H) here is hosting the 14th Asia-Pacific Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD) from today.

The PAKDD-2010 aims to bring an important scientific event to the developing world in the field of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, a release from the IIIT said.

The PAKDD provides an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results and practical development experiences from all knowledge discovery related areas including data mining, data warehousing and machine learning.

The four-day event will be attended by about 300 participants, including about 130 international experts from 20 countries.

Data mining (also called data or knowledge discovery) is the process of analysing data from different perspectives and summarising it into a useful information so that it can be used for increasing revenue, cut costs or both, the release added.

Meanwhile, IIIT-H has also said its team 'Mission Gaganyaan' has been ranked first at the global aerospace competition 'CanSat 2010', which has seen participation from premier universities from across the world, at Amarillo, Texas in the US.
