If you cross the railway tracks, your dear ones may lose your track permanently

Western Railway launches SMS campaign against track crossing

PTI | July 28, 2010

In its bid to curb cases of crossing tracks sometimes with fatal consequence, Western Railway (WR) has launched an SMS campaign to spread awareness about its hazards.

"Through this initiative we intend to educate the public on the issue and persuade them to not cross the railway tracks. We thought of utilising a medium (SMS) which has wide reach," Western Railway PRO C David said.

WR will send one crore SMSes to Mumbaikars over a period of one month starting today. Through this campaign we will appeal to use foot over bridges or subways, David said.

WR has provided 78 foot over bridges (FOB) and six subways between Churchgate and Virar. The SMS will be sent in languages like English, Hindi and Marathi.

The message in English would read as -- "if you cross the railway tracks, your dear ones may lose your track permanently". The other one is "shortcuts can cut your life short. Don't cross tracks, use foot over bridges and subways".
