Calls for strengthening e-governance

PTI | July 24, 2010

Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Information Technology Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi today said that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has revolutionised the style of working in all spheres of life.

This technology facilitates project management, programme implementation and monitoring of development schemes, he said, speaking at a one-day conference on Information Technology organised by the Department of Science and Technology and Information Technology here today.

Mehdi said that ICT greatly helps in improving delivery of public services.

He said the communication technology is imperative for improving governance as it promotes transparency and accountability in the administrative system.

Mehdi underscored the need for strengthening e-governance initiatives across the state so that information about government programmes and policies are made accessible for the public. This, he said, will not only help reduce time, cost and distance, but will also help the government to become more responsive and public-oriented.
