Gujarat Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas today said the government has launched Urban Health Mission, a first of its kind in the country, to provide health care services to urban poor of the state.

"The Urban Health Mission is being fully funded by the state government under which 102 Urban Health Centres (UHCs) would be set up at various nagarpalikas of the state," Vyas told mediapersons here.

"Under Rs 360 crore project, there would be one UHC for every 50,000 population, an outreach centre for every 10,000 population and for every 2000 population there would be health worker called USHA (Urban State Health Attendant)," Vyas said.

"The first stage of the mission has already begun and 11 UHCs have already been set up," he added.

The aim of the mission is to provide quality health care to the urban poor, Vyas said.

The health minister also announced that the state has decided to include children requiring kidney transplant and suffering from physical disability under the government's State Health Programme (SHP).

"We have also decided to provide computerised health card for all school children during Gujarat golden jubilee year.
