'Cyber Lab' inaugurated in Hyderabad

With a view to upgrade the skills of Investigating officers to deal with rising cyber crimes, a 'Cyber Lab' was today set up at the Cyber Cell of the Crime Investigation Department here today.

Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police, R R Girish Kumar inaugurated the 'Cyber Lab' which is the seventh such centre to be established across the country.

With the initiative of NASSCOM-DSCI (Data Security Council of India) and with the sponsorship of Andhra Bank, the 'Cyber Lab' has been set up.

Complimenting the CID and other agencies on setting up the lab, Girish Kumar said, "The subject of technology-related crimes particularly mobile phones, internet-related crime are proving to be a great challenge to law enforcing agencies."

"Now we have launched this lab which would not only impart training but also help in building capacity and upgrade the skills of Investigating officers with required technical inputs and investigation techniques in investigating cyber crimes," he said.

The lab will act as nodal centres in Andhra Pradesh to conduct awareness programmes and upgrade the skills of not only the police officers but also of officers from Prosecution, Judiciary and other Government Departments, apart from industry personnel, he said.

Simultaneously, a Digital Investigation Lab, designed to assist the Investigating Officers in areas requiring technical expertise was also inaugurated on the occasion.

"This lab will also be useful as an adjunct of Cyber Lab, providing technical expertise to enable participants to get some experience in various tools useful to detect cyber crimes," Girish Kumar said. NASSCOM Cyber Security Director Pratap Reddy and CID Additional DGP A Sivanarayana were among those who spoke on the occasion.
