C'wealth Games baton has host of electronic features: BEL

Wireless connectivity, GPS, voice recorder all part of baton

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has incorporated a host of electronic features in the Queen's Baton for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi similar to the Olympic torch, company officials said today.

After the state-run company was asked to build the baton by the government, BEL took up the design, development and manufacturing of the hardware to make it an 'intelligent' baton that is rugged and loaded with features.

BEL Director for Research and Development I V Sarma said the baton has features like wireless connectivity, camera, micro-controller, signal processor, voice recorder and microphone, LED based lighting for the golden leaf on the top carrying the Queen's message and GPS.
