A gang which allegedly cheated several persons by cloning their credit cards was busted in the national capital and three of its members including two jewellers were arrested, police said today.

Kamal, Bobby Verma and Vijay Soni were picked from various locations in the capital and several cloned debit and credit cards of different banks and one card swipe machine were recovered from them, they said, adding they were planning to target foreigners during the upcoming Commonwealth games.

Two other gang members, identified as Vipin and Zahid, are absconding.

"The gang had planned to collect data of international cards during the forthcoming Commonwealth Games to make their clones," a senior police officer claimed.

"For that purpose, they were in contact with several persons who work in five star hotels and other places where foreigners as well as players are expected to stay during the games here," he said.

According to police, the gang allegedly prepare clone of credit and debit cards of several persons after obtaining data of their cards from petrol pump outlets and other business establishments in Delhi and NCR.

Kamal allegedly used to procure the data and Vipin, a computer expert, allegedly used to prepare the clone of the credit cards using the data.

To extract data, Kamal allegedly managed to install data reader at various petrol pump outlets by involving sales boys who swiped customers' cards to these equipments in lieu of Rs 200 per card, the officer said.

The gang also managed to involve various shopkeepers including jewellers in the crime and obtained data of their customers by installing data readers at their shops.

"Bobby Verma and Vijay Soni are jewellers who swiped the cloned credit and debit cards for 20 per cent commission of total purchase," the police officer said.

Assistant Manager of a Standard Chartered Bank branch Javed Chouhan had lodged a complaint on March 26 at Hauz Khas police station alleging that unknown persons cheated several customers of his bank by using their cloned credit and debit cards.

"Investigation of the case is in progress," DCP (south) HGS Dhaliwal said.
