Arvind Gupta appointed as convenor of BJP's IT cell

Gadkari appoints convenors of three party cells

PTI | July 12, 2010

Six months after taking over as BJP president, Nitin Gadkari today appointed convenors of three party cells, with sources saying heads of other cells and distribution of responsibility to office-bearers would be announced soon.

Gadkari, who has drawn flak from the media and murmurs of protest from the party cadre for not announcing his team even six months after taking over, today named Arvind Gupta as convenor of information technology cell.

M K Anna Patil of Jalgaon, has been made convenor of bio-energy cell. He was embroiled in the cash-for-query scam earlier and had to quit his Parliamentary seat.

Sunil Deodhar will be the convenor of North-East India samparka cell.

BJP has 34 cells and barring the media cell, workers training cell and governance cell (these two were created by the new president).

Some party leaders and workers were also perturbed due to the undue delay in allocation of responsibility to party vice-presidents, general secretaries and secretaries.

"Since it has not yet been decided who will be in-charge of which state and other work allocations have also not been made by the president, there is a sense of ad hocism about our work and responsibilities," a senior party leader said.

Party insiders say General Secretary Ananth Kumar was given the job of preparing a tentative list of work allocation after consultations with senior leaders and the announcement would be made soon. Gadkari has to do a final vetting before the list is made public, the sources said.

Ananth Kumar, who is in-charge of Bihar, is also likely to get Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh, being a politically sensitive and also a populous state, may be put under the charge of more than one general secretary.

General Secretary Vasundhara Raje may get charge of Chhattisgarh while Vijay Goel is likely to get charge of Uttarakhand, according to the sources.
