Apollo ties up with Cisco for telemedicine project

To use Cisco's desktop based Healthpresence Extended Reach Technology

Healthcare major Apollo Hospitals today announced the technical tie up with IT giant Cisco for providing Telemedicine services in the country.

Telemedicine is a process through which patients can consult doctors located at very distant places through electronic mediums without visiting them.

"The alliance with Cisco will revolutionise the delivery of healthcare in India," Apollo Hospitals Group Executive Director Sangita Reddy told reporters here.

As per the tie up, Cisco will provide its technological solutions, which including softwares and other hardware systems for integrating Apollo' hospitals, clinics and other institutes through high speed internet.

Cisco's desktop based Healthpresence Extended Reach Technology will help doctors working in centres located in remote areas to consult specialists for providing better services to patients in these regions.

Apollo Hospitals had started telemedicine project around 10 years back and now, the company is looking at expanding it to other parts of the country.

"Through this technology, we can connect our seven super specialty hospitals to a chain over 100 clinical in the country," Reddy said.

Apollo Hospitals Group is the largest healthcare chain in the country.
